With only seven games remaining and the San Antonio Stars sitting in the last place in the WNBA standings, rookie-star guard, Kelsey Plum is finally getting into a rhythm.

The Stars started the season off with an 0-16 record until their first win on June 30th against the Chicago Sky. Prior to the losing streak, the Stars were the talk of the town with the top overall pick in the draft and the selection of women’s NCAA scoring record holder, Kelsey Plum, who sustained an ankle injury during the preseason.

After their first preseason game, an 87-81 win over the Dallas Wings, prospects looked good for the San Antonio squad. After the Plum injury that kept her out for three games, and up until the end of June, the Stars failed to impress.

Before the Stars first win, Plum averaged 3.36 points per game. In the last 10 games, of which the Stars have won five, Plum has averaged 13.4 points. She had posted two career high’s in two different categories in two games over the weekend. The former Washington Huskie dished out 12 assists in a win over the Washington Mystics on Friday and had 23 points in an overtime win over Seattle on Saturday.

“I do. I think I continue to feel more comfortable,” Plum said after Friday’s win over Washington. “Tonight my shot wasn’t falling, so it was just whatever I could do to make our team win. People were making shots, so I was just trying to get Izzy and Kayla the ball. I think I will continue to get comfortable and continue to get better. I want to be a great player in this league, so I am going to do whatever it takes.”

With just seven games left for the Stars, the help from Plum is a good sign of what she will bring with a full year under belt in 2018. That combined with another top draft pick in April should make for a bright future for San Antonio.

“I think it’s not unrealistic to expect this as the norm moving forward,” she told the media after Saturday’s win. “I know it takes time, especially for rookies coming into this league to find a rhythm but hopefully going forward this is what fans should expect.”

The recent burst of success from Kelsey Plum seems to be reason for hope in the eyes of Stars fans.
