Highlights:

The San Antonio Stars closed out their opening weekend with a 89-74 Mother’s Day loss to the Washington Mystics inside the Verizon Center on Sunday afternoon.

Monique Currie continued her hot scoring from the previous game, notching a career-high 31 points. Currie was the lone player in double figures for San Antonio, who played without Kelsey Plum, Kayla McBride, and Moriah Jefferson.

“One thing about Currie is that she has heart,” Stars coach Vickie Johnson said. “She is playing well. She is playing smart. She is our [Manu] Ginobili right now coming off the bench. She is our spark. Hopefully she will continue to fill that role for us.”

The Mystics were led by  Elena Delle Donne’s 24 points in her first game in a Washington Mystics uniform. Tayler Hill and Emma Meesseman added 15 and 13 points respectively.

“It was great to get out there and get that win and get that first home game under our belt,” Delle Donne said. “We were able see a lot of good things. Obviously, it wasn’t perfect, but we got the win.”

Up next: The Stars are 0-2 on the season and will return to the court on Friday when they welcome the Phoenix Mercury to the AT&T Center at 7 p.m. for the team’s home opener.
