The San Antonio Stars have signed veteran center Erika De Souza for the upcoming 2017 season, the team announced on Wednesday afternoon.
de Souza was drafted by the Atlanta Dream in 2008 and is a three time All-Star. During her 11-year career, she has averaged 9.8 points and 7.1 rebounds in 23.8 minutes per game.
“Erika gives us size and experience in the post,” said Stars General Manager Ruth Riley in a team press release. “She is a proven All-Star in our league and we are incredibly excited to have her join us in San Antonio.”
De Souza will likely serve as the new starter after Jayne Appel-Marinelli announced her retirement at the conclusion of the 2016 season.
The Stars will open the 2017 season on May 13 against the New York Liberty on the road. The team will host the Phoenix Mercury for their home opener at the AT&T Center on May 19 at 7 p.m.
